Shade of Dean

Everyone has Demons
(Part One)

Shade is used to working alone.
After more than two centuries hunting demons and supernatural mysteries across London, private investigator Shade knows his business. He also knows he doesn’t want to do two centuries’ worth of paperwork. But when his ad for a receptionist brings in a determined (and far too beautiful) mortal applicant who knows entirely too much about the supernatural side of the city and won’t take ‘go away’ for an answer, Shade finds himself wondering if he might have been better off working alone after all. He hardly needs an inexperienced human trailing him around, insisting on learning the story of his immortal life.
Not that he has time to dwell on Simon or those big, brown, impossible-to-resist eyes. Shade has been hired to find a missing musician, and as the investigation unfolds, he discovers that she’s not the only one. People with talent are disappearing, and those who return do so hollow, stripped of the gifts that once defined their lives. And when Simon is badly beaten following a lead, the vampire detective will stop at nothing to find out who is behind the kidnappings, and the cruel attack on a man he was just learning to love.

My Favourite Review So Far…
What if Sherlock Holmes was a vampire? The “Shade of Dean - Everyone has Demons” duology by Danny Darke follows the story of a charming, several-hundred-years-old private investigator named Shade and his new, very handsome receptionist, Simon. The pair get tangled in a case of mysterious kidnappings as a romance starts to bloom between the two. The books hit so many sweet spots, leaving you on the edge of your seat as the story progresses yet melting your heart as so does the vampire’s.
With wonderful twists, interesting characters and set in the most appropriate of environments “Shade of Dean” transports you to London, takes you through hidden alleyways and underground routes and reveals to you an unknown side of it, full of supernatural creatures.
It was with great joy that I received an ARC of Shade of Dean some years ago and with even greater joy that I see it published now. If you like fantasy, mystery or romance there’s a good chance you’ll love “Shade of Dean”. The combination of these three elements with just the perfect amount of spice make this book a true masterpiece. A solid 5/5.

Everyone has Demons
(Part Two)

Shade is not accustomed to giving up.
And yet, in the aftermath of a loss he had been racing to prevent, he finds himself on the verge of letting a case go. People go missing in London all the time, and without a single clue as to who--or what--has been kidnapping artists and stripping them of their talent, this case might just prove beyond the abilities of even a vampire private investigator.
But Simon, Shade’s receptionist turned lover, awaiting a dangerous surgery in hospital, doesn’t want to let the case go, and when Shade finally catches a lead, he might just find an answer after all. That is, if he can survive long enough to unravel the knots of a mystery that has begun to remind him all too much of one of the worst moments of his centuries-long life.

Fantastic! Emotive! Powerful!
It didn't take long to get into Part 1 of this story and as I reached part 2 I couldn't read it fast enough. The plot is fantastic and as the book reaches its climax I was almost in tears. A beautiful love story with plenty of horror/fantasy and great characters from modern day London. Shade (the main character, a vampire) has a fantastic life story which is woven into the main, modern day plot. Full of suspense, humour, magic, evil and good. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Bought part 1&2 through Amazon for my kindle. Five out of five!
By Silas Marner - thank you so much!
